Vassilisis Sofias Lights
Client: Onassis Cultural Foundation for the Municipality of Athens

To design & install a conceptual light installation, in order to illuminate one of the most prominent highways of the Athenian city center during Christmas time of 2019, as a part of the project "Adopt your city", for Onassis Cultural Foundation and the Municipality of Athens

The magic of Christmas is defined by the light. The light that always comes out, abundant, clean and free. Like the innovative spirit, when it’s free, unites, "illuminates" and creates.

A light installation, following the flow of the street, turns into a bright path, with perpetual motion, changing color, shape and form. Bright lines that "danced" under the starry sky and warmed the "heart" of the city and defining an optimistic course towards the new year.

Always respecting the architecture and lighting of the city, in a period of 4 months of construction development and design, we proceeded to a minimal tailor made solution, of a lighting installation of 612 luminaires of different sizes framing the aerial lighting, crossing Vassilisis Sofias Avenue, starting from Dromeas at Hilton up to Akadimias Street.

The total lighting system was consisted of 612 luminaires divided into 4 networks which have been developed at a total distance of 1200m. The 612 custom made luminaires were designed and manufactured in Greece. Each luminaire has the ability to independently manage color and intensity through 4 color channels (RGBW), having in total 2448 unique channels.

The controlling  system for this application is by the Dutch factory company Casambi which is a pioneer in wireless lighting management systems via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
